WEYBURN RED WINGS

(1961 - Present)

The Weyburn Red Wings joined the SJHL in 1961 when it was a league that competed for the Memorial Cup. In 1966, it was one of the teams that formed the basis for the new rebel CMJHL. The following year, the league became the WCHL. In 1968, in an effort to rejoin the hunt for the Memorial Cup, Weyburn, along with the Regina Pats and Moose Jaw Warriors, left the WCHL to form a new SJHL that was sanctioned by the CAHA. Shortly, after the WCHL became the lone Western Canadian league eligible to compete for the Memorial Cup and the new SJHL became a Tier II Junior 'A' league. Weyburn has been a part of that league ever since.
