QUEBEC NORDIQUES

(1972 - 1995)

 

The Quebec Nordiques were not initially planned to be one of the first teams of the WHA. The San Francisco Sharks were slated in the starting line-up but the franchise shifted to Quebec City prior to the league's inaugural season. The Nordiques played in every WHA season and outlasted the league by joining the NHL in 1979.

The Nordiques were and often successful and certainly promising team. Unfortunately, money forced the team out of this small market and into Denver where they became the Colorado Avalanche. That promise was quickly turned into a Stanley Cup in the Mile High City.
