MONTREAL, QUEBEC
Montreal may not be the official birthplace of hockey, but it is the birthplace of organized hockey. The carnivals of the 1880's are the earliest well-known events where hockey was exhibited. The game took a quick foothold in the area and the various professional leagues that preceded the NHL evolved out of the Montreal area.
