SAULT STE. MARIE GREYHOUNDS

(1962 - Present)

After the demise of the professional Sault Ste. Marie Thunderbirds of the EPHL, a new Junior 'A' League sprung up in Northern Ontario. The Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds were charter members of the NOHA league.

In 1972, Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds were granted an expansion team in the OHA Junior 'A' League and the NOHA team effectively moved into the higher skilled league. The NOHA Junior 'A' League disbanded.

The Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds featured a young Wayne Gretzky in 1977-78.

They Greyhounds won their first Memorial Cup in 1993. The team remains in the OHL today.
