Sault Ste Marie

SAULT STE. MARIE, ONTARIO

The 'Sault' (pronounced 'Soo') is located in Northern Ontario and borders Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. The city has a long hockey history dating back to the first official professional hockey league, the International League (1903 - 07). The Sault Ste. Marie Algonquins were one of five professional teams in that historic league.

The city has a long history in professional and Senior hockey. They iced the Greyhounds in the old CHL (1925-26), the Thunderbirds in the old EPHL (1959-62) and the Canadians in the USHL (1968-73). The city is know known for their top level Junior team who once featured Wayne Gretzky.
