SARNIA BEES

(1969 - 1995)

In 1969, Sarnia iced a second Junior team and entered the 'Bees' in the newly formed Western Ontario Junior 'B' League. Sarnia had the Legionnaires playing in the rebel Western Ontario Junior 'A' League at the same time. The Bees turned out to be the bigger success. In 1971, they won the Sutherland Cup as Provincial Junior 'B' Champions. After that success, they moved up to play in the Southern Ontario Tier II Junior 'A' Hockey League for the 1971-72 season. They could not reproduce the success and the Bees went back to the Junior 'B' level the following season. At times, the Bees included their main sponsors name in their logo (Glis Bees and Ranson Bees). In 1994, the Sarnia Sting came to town and in 1995, they dropped their Bee name in favor of the name 'Steeplejacks'.
