MARKHAM WAXERS
(1963 - Present)
Markham joined the Metro Junior 'B' Hockey League in 1963, icing a team called the 'Seal-a-Wax'. Eventually, the team was called the 'Sealers/Waxers'. By 1972, the name 'Waxers' finally took. In 1973, the Waxers moved up to join the Provincial Junior 'A' League. Leaving the Metro league resulted in another Markham team taking their place.
The Waxers outlived the Provincial 'A' League moving on the the Central Ontario Junior 'B' League in 1987, after the league's demise. In 1992, the league was upgraded to become the Central Ontario Junior 'A' League and the following year, the league revived the name Provincial Junior 'A' League. In 1995, the Waxers left the league to join the Metro Junior 'A' League. In 1998, the two leagues merged and the Waxers were once again in the Provincial Junior 'A' League. They remain in the league today.
