New Shield Solid Orange/Red Reverse
(1973 - 1993)
The most common IHL shield puck had the shield screened in an orange/red color. There are numerous varieties covering a wide time range. Upon closer inspection, there are varieties within this category. The following attempts to break down this evolution.

The earliest variety featured letters that were flared and less 'boxy' then later varieties. Also, the bottom point was more curved than later varieties. These are always found issued on CCM 'Made in Canada' slugs and are the earliest variety. |

Another early variety was issued on a Biltrite slug. The letters are still flared but the top is more curved and the bottom only slightly curved near the point. Very few appear to have been screened in this fashion. |

VICEROY/CZECH SHIELD (1973 - 1985) Another shield version had boxy lettes with no flares as with earlier varieties. The bottom point still has a slight curve at the point. This was used over a long period of time and primarily screened on Viceroy slugs. |

REGISTERED SHIELD (1978 - 1980) Another version of the shield has a small Registered mark below the logo. In addition to this, the front logos are all dated. Typically, Czechoslovakian slugs are used for this series. |

The shield was now being screeend with no point at the bottom at all. Also, colored front logos were becoming more common. These are typically screened on Czechoslovakian slugs. |

A final version had the shield screened in more of a red color than orange. A slight point returned to the bottom of the logo. General Tire, Goodyear or Czechoslovakian slugs were used. |
