EASTERN HOCKEY LEAGUE
(1979 - 1981)
The Eastern Hockey League had been a long running and relatively successful Senior/Semi-Pro league in the US. It last existed in 1973 when it effectively split into two leagues. In 1979, the Northestern Hockey League tried to tap into this past glory by changing their name to the Eastern Hockey League.
This new league added the Baltimore Clippers to the existing 5 teams from the NEHL. The Johnstown Wings gained an affiliation with the Detroit Red Wings and updated their name to reflect their partnership. However, after one season, the Johnstown Red Wing were no more and they were effectively replaced by the Syracuse Hornets. Also, the Utica Mohawks relocated to become the Salem Raiders.
In 1981, the league ceased operations with a couple of teams moving on to join the new ACHL.
