Early AHL Art Ross/Tyer Game Pucks
(1940-1969)
Despite being the most established league next to the NHL, the AHL lagged behind other leagues such as the WHL and IHL in terms of developing their own pucks. For the most part, the AHL used NHL style pucks if they used pucks of any distinction at all in the early going. There is evidence of the early Tyer puck shown below as being used by the AHL. The first pucks with any AHL notation appeared in the 1960's. The league soon adopted a Tyer/Converse style of puck mimicking those used by the NHL. A generic league puck was used by most teams, however a few team logos did appear in full color. The Art Ross was never established as the only puck used by AHL teams.
